8 chapters in and going strong. How?

Though I am no novelist, (not yet at least) I seem to have been able to keep any type of block from coming up. I just wanted in this short time that I have before my Hitory of Greece class starts to go over the two tools that I have been using to make sure the ideas keep coming.

1. Freewrite: as I mentioned in the blog before this one, everytime I sit down to write at length in my novel I always start the session out with a good bit of doodling. That is to say I write the first thing that pops in my head or some idea that has been nagging at me. This really seems to help get the juices flowing for when I start on my book.

2. Talk it out: there have been some points along the way where I had to ask myself "Okay... what happens now?" These often come up as I am writing. The best way that I have found to get past this is to start talking about it, either to myself or my patient wife. Hi Jen!! Talkint things out helps me get past the keyboard and the paper to the real story that I am trying to tell and not having to type everything I think helps to keep things going smoothly.

Alright I am off to class. Have fun writing.

A Basic Pitch

Well here it is. This a rough draft of the pitch for my book. It, very shortly, gives a small description about what the book is going to be about, and yes I don't actually intend on naming one my main characters Legend. Think of it as more of a place holder.

The great kingdom of Antium, the bastion of humanity is under attack from multiple sides while internal forces hope to corrupt the very core of their society. The Durnhomeds attack with innumerable hosts from the east while the Cult of the Widow seeps into every part of government hierarchy. At the same time the magical realms that live in the hidden and forgotten places of the world are bursting at the seams. The Satyr wars are on the brink of spilling into the human world. The guardians of the realms, the weire and fair, can no longer contain them because their own orders have crumbled to pieces.

What does all this mean for Mira Spinwell and Legend Morris? Nothing at all. Their town of Heirden is more concerned with the oncoming harvest and who will bring the best dish to the autumn feast, but the world of man and magic in a desperate attempt to save themselves will grasp out for some hope. Mira and Legend's world will be torn away from them and nations willingly or not, knowingly or not will turn to these two for salvation

MY FIRST POST!!!

Scratch Writing

Here at Scratch Writing I hope to allow all my friends and family to follow along as I write and get published my first book. I plan on discussing how the process is going and what I learn from the process. I plan on post some of my free writing shorts and perhaps exerpts from my book. I mostly want to have fun with this blog and use it as a place to talk about the creative process that I am going through right now. For all those who decide to follow along, I hope you enjoy the ride. I'm sure I will.

So that's what I hope to do here. As far as everyone that comes to visit I hope that you will post your thoughts, ideas, comments, and whatever comes to mind because I love hearing what people have to say.
